This is the Emergency Canopy Release handle. When the pilot pulls this to the down position, it fires a set of explosive charges that will fling the canopy clear of the aircraft. It is used if the standard canopy control isn't working and the pilot needs to get out _now_. This is the same system that's automatically fired when the ejection seat handles are pulled. This particular example came from a cockpit procedures trainer and Rob has done a great job in repainting it! The handle has a set of holes drilled for a safety pin. If anyone happens to have a safety pin & flag that will fit, please let me know! Here is the location where the handle is installed: I apologize for the blurred image. My digital camera was having a difficult time trying to find the range for the auto-focus feature.Back to the Tech Index
